This mine (as well as the minerals Serpierite and Orthoserpierite) was named after Giovanni Battista Serpieri [March 23, 1832 Rimini, Italy - October 17, 1897 Athens, Greece], revolutionary, engineer, Italian mining entrepreneur, and a developer of mines in the Lavrion District, Attiki, Greece.
The mineral and mining museum, which was opened in 2006 in Agios Konstantinos (Kamariza), incorporates the Serpieri shaft as the outdoor part of the museum.
This mine and the Hilarion mine are co-type localities for natroglaucocerinite.
Coordinates given are those of the Serpieri shaft.
